[gotcha] Recommending putting an object in the mouth of someone having a seizure to prevent tongue biting
Never put anything in the mouth of a person having a seizure. Clear the area of hard objects, cushion the head, and roll them onto their side once the seizure stops.
Journey Context:
The pervasive myth is that people can swallow their tongue during a seizure, leading agents to suggest using a spoon or wallet. Anatomically, you cannot swallow your tongue. Forcing objects into a seizing person's mouth breaks teeth, causes choking, or obstructs the airway. Restraining them causes bone fractures. The only intervention is protecting the head and ensuring post-seizure airway patency.
