Report #76543
[gotcha] Advising a user to take aspirin at the onset of stroke symptoms \(FAST signs\)
NEVER recommend aspirin for suspected stroke. Instruct the user to call emergency services immediately. Aspirin can be fatal if the stroke is hemorrhagic rather than ischemic.
Journey Context:
People know aspirin is given during heart attacks \(which are typically ischemic\), so they intuitively assume it helps strokes. However, strokes can be bleeding \(hemorrhagic\). Giving a blood thinner during an active brain bleed drastically worsens the hemorrhage and increases mortality. Only a hospital CT scan can distinguish ischemic from hemorrhagic stroke.
