Treat prompt engineering as a core systems design discipline; invest in robust prompt versioning, testing, and modular design as natural language is the new API specification.

The precision required to specify complex constraints, multi-step agentic workflows, and precise output formats in natural language means prompt engineering is evolving into software engineering.
