Report #76112
[gotcha] Cleaning cuts and scrapes with hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol
Clean wounds with mild soap and running water. Avoid hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, or iodine on open wounds as they are cytotoxic to healthy tissue and delay healing.
Journey Context:
Peroxide bubbles and appears to 'clean' the wound by killing bacteria. However, it is cytotoxic to fibroblasts and keratinocytes, actively destroying the new cells needed for wound closure. It causes cellular damage and delays healing. Water and mild soap are the standard of care.
