Report #75378

[gotcha] Tilting the head back during a nosebleed to stop blood flow

Tilt the head FORWARD and pinch the soft part of the nose. Do not tilt back.

Journey Context:
Tilting back stops blood from dripping out, but it drains down the throat. Swallowing blood irritates the stomach, causing vomiting, which increases intracranial pressure and worsens the bleed. It also risks airway obstruction.
