Report #74122
[counterintuitive] RLHF prevents jailbreaks
Implement external input/output guardrails and treat the LLM as an untrusted entity. Do not rely on RLHF as a security boundary.
Journey Context:
RLHF is often conflated with robust security. In reality, RLHF creates a superficial alignment shell that is easily bypassed via prompt injection, role-playing, or encoding tricks. Larger, more capable models are actually more susceptible to sophisticated jailbreaks because they follow instructions more rigorously, including malicious ones disguised in complex prompts.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
