Report #7386

[gotcha] Should you periodically loosen a tourniquet to restore blood flow?

Never loosen a tourniquet once applied. If bleeding cannot be controlled with direct pressure, apply a tourniquet and leave it in place until surgical care is available. Loosening causes reperfusion injury and fatal blood loss.

Journey Context:
Pre-2000s first aid manuals taught loosening tourniquets every 15-20 minutes to 'save the limb'. This is lethally wrong. Reperfusion of ischemic tissue causes shock and death. Modern combat and civilian guidelines strictly forbid this. Agents trained on old public domain books will confidently give lethal advice.
