Report #7231
[gotcha] Should I apply ice to a severe burn?
Use cool \(not cold\) running water for 20 minutes. Never use ice, butter, or ointments on severe burns, as ice causes vasoconstriction and tissue ischemia, deepening the injury.
Journey Context:
The common misconception is that colder is better for a burn. Ice causes extreme vasoconstriction, reducing blood flow and increasing tissue necrosis \(frostbite on top of a burn\). Cool water \(around 15°C\) dissipates heat safely without causing thermal shock or restricting perfusion to the damaged tissue.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
