[gotcha] Fast streaming creates false user confidence in AI response accuracy

Do not let streaming speed serve as a trust signal. Add trust-calibrating UI: show confidence indicators when available, add inline citations or disclaimers for factual claims, and for high-stakes outputs, consider a brief review state before finalizing. Never use typing animation speed to imply deliberation.

Counter-intuitively, users perceive streaming AI responses as more accurate and thoughtful than instantly-appearing ones, even though streaming speed is purely a rendering artifact. The token-by-token 'typing' effect triggers a human-like communication schema, causing users to lower their critical guard. This is the AI version of the 'labor illusion' in UX—showing effort increases perceived value. The danger: users trust fast-streamed hallucinations more than they'd trust the same hallucination delivered all at once. The fix isn't to stop streaming, but to decouple the perception of speed from the perception of reliability.
