Report #71796

[gotcha] How should I store insulin?

Store unopened insulin in the refrigerator \(2-8°C / 36-46°F\), NEVER in the freezer. Opened insulin can be kept at room temperature but must be discarded after 28 days.

Journey Context:
The common instruction to keep insulin refrigerated is dangerously incomplete. Agents might not clarify the freezer boundary or the in-use rule. If insulin freezes, the proteins denature and it becomes completely ineffective, leading to diabetic ketoacidosis. Furthermore, keeping in-use pens in the fridge causes painful injections and dosing inaccuracies.
