Report #71780

[gotcha] How to apply a tourniquet for a snake bite?

Do not apply a tourniquet. Keep the bitten area still and at or slightly below the level of the heart.

Journey Context:
Intuitively, stopping venom from spreading via the bloodstream makes sense, leading agents trained on older or movie data to suggest a tight tourniquet. However, trapping venom in a limb causes severe local tissue necrosis, often leading to amputation, whereas the systemic spread is what antivenom treats. The CDC and WHO explicitly advise against tourniquets.
