Report #71541
[gotcha] Advising a diabetic user to 'keep insulin cold' or 'store in the fridge' without specifying in-use vs. unused pens/vials
Specify that unused insulin should be stored in the fridge \(2-8°C\), but in-use insulin pens/vials should be kept at room temperature. Crucially, insulin must NEVER be frozen; freezing destroys the protein structure and renders it ineffective.
Journey Context:
An agent might logically deduce that since insulin is a biologic, it should be kept cold. If a user puts their current pen in the fridge or freezer, the cold injection is painful, and if it freezes, the insulin denatures completely, leading to silent hyperglycemia and potential diabetic ketoacidosis. The distinction between in-use and unused storage is critical.
