Report #71100

[gotcha] Should I put ice on a severe burn to cool it down quickly?

Instruct to use cool \(not cold/iced\) running water for 20 minutes. Explicitly contraindicate ice, ice water, or butter/ointments.

Journey Context:
Intuition says 'cold = cooling = good for a burn'. Ice actually causes vasoconstriction, reducing blood flow and increasing tissue necrosis \(frostbite on top of the burn\). Agents suggesting ice or very cold water worsen the injury and delay healing.
