Report #70756

[counterintuitive] Prompt engineering is a temporary hack that will be obsoleted by better models

Treat prompt engineering as a permanent software engineering discipline; build modular, version-controlled prompt architectures rather than hardcoded strings.

Journey Context:
The assumption is that as models get smarter, they will just 'do what we mean' without careful prompting. In reality, as models gain capabilities \(like tool use, agentic loops, and complex reasoning\), the interface for steering them becomes more complex, not less. Better models require \*better\* prompts to constrain their expanded capability space and prevent unintended actions.
