[counterintuitive] Is prompt engineering just a temporary hack that fine-tuning will replace

Treat prompt engineering as a core software engineering discipline. Combine it with RAG and fine-tuning; prompting is the only way to dynamically control model behavior at inference time without retraining.

Journey Context:
Many believe that as models get better or fine-tuning gets cheaper, prompt engineering will disappear. In reality, fine-tuning is static and expensive to update, while prompts allow dynamic, zero-latency adjustments to behavior, persona, and tool usage. Prompt engineering is the interface layer for LLMs, and structured prompting is becoming more formalized, not less.
