[counterintuitive] Prefixing prompts with 'Act as a senior developer' or 'You are an expert in X'

Specify the exact constraints, style, and evaluation criteria of the domain directly, rather than assigning a persona.

Persona prompts worked when models needed a distribution shift to access domain-specific tokens. Now, they often cause sycophancy \(the model agrees with the user's bad assumptions because it's 'playing the expert'\) or bloated, cliché outputs. Direct constraints \('Ensure code is O\(n\) time complexity'\) are more effective than 'Act as an expert in algorithms'.
