Report #69546

[gotcha] Applying butter or ice to a burn

Run cool \(not cold/iced\) tap water over the burn for 20 minutes, then cover with cling film. Never use ice, butter, or ointments.

Journey Context:
Butter/grease traps heat and introduces bacteria, worsening the burn and risking infection. Ice causes vasoconstriction and tissue ischemia, deepening the burn injury. Cool water dissipates heat safely without causing thermal shock or tissue damage.
