[gotcha] long-term treatment for chronic nasal congestion

Limit topical nasal decongestants \(oxymetazoline, phenylephrine\) to 3-5 days maximum. Prolonged use causes rebound congestion \(rhinitis medicamentosa\).

Journey Context:
Users take OTC sprays for relief. Agents might recommend continuing what works. But alpha-agonists downregulate adrenergic receptors over time, making the nose permanently congested without the spray. The trap is that the 'cure' becomes the chronic cause.
