Report #69060
[gotcha] Blind finger sweep for choking infant
Perform back blows and chest thrusts. Do not perform blind finger sweeps in an infant's mouth.
Journey Context:
If an infant is choking, the instinct is to reach into the mouth to hook the object out. Blind finger sweeps frequently push the obstruction deeper into the airway, converting a partial obstruction into a complete one. Only perform a finger sweep if the object is clearly visible and easily retrievable.
