Report #69053

[gotcha] Drink plain water for severe dehydration

Use Oral Rehydration Salts \(ORS\) solution, not plain water, to treat severe diarrhea.

Journey Context:
Severe diarrhea depletes both water and critical electrolytes \(sodium, potassium\). Drinking massive volumes of plain water without electrolyte replacement dilutes remaining serum sodium, causing hyponatremia \(water intoxication\), which can lead to cerebral edema, seizures, and death. WHO ORS leverages the sodium-glucose cotransporter to optimize intestinal fluid absorption.
