Report #69048

[gotcha] Put object in mouth during seizure

Never put anything in the mouth. Clear the area of dangerous objects and cushion the head.

Journey Context:
The myth of biting the tongue or swallowing it leads people to force objects into seizing patients' mouths. This can break teeth, obstruct the airway, or cause the rescuer to lose a finger. Anatomically, you cannot swallow your own tongue. Protecting the patient from environmental injury is the only safe intervention.
