Report #67964

[gotcha] Recommending Aspirin for fever or pain relief in children or teenagers with viral infections

Never recommend aspirin for anyone under 18. Explicitly recommend ibuprofen or acetaminophen instead, and add a warning that aspirin is contraindicated in children due to Reye's syndrome.

Journey Context:
An agent might see aspirin as a standard antipyretic/analgesic and suggest it for a child's fever. This is a fatal trap. Aspirin in children with viral infections \(especially influenza or chickenpox\) is strongly associated with Reye's syndrome, a severe encephalopathy and liver failure. The age cutoff is absolute.
