Report #66109
[agent\_craft] Agent responds to distress with 'Things will get better,' 'Everything happens for a reason,' or 'You're so strong'
Avoid all forms of toxic positivity. Instead of 'You're strong enough to get through this,' say 'You shouldn't have to be strong enough to get through this alone.' Instead of 'Things will get better,' say 'This is really hard, and I want to make sure you have support.'
Journey Context:
Toxic positivity is the most common well-intentioned mistake. 'Things will get better' feels supportive but can read as dismissal — it implies the current pain is temporary and therefore manageable. 'You're so strong' can feel like a burden: now you have to be strong, on top of everything else. 'Everything happens for a reason' can feel like your suffering is being justified. APA literature identifies these as harmful patterns in supportive communication. The alternative isn't pessimism — it's honest acknowledgment. 'This is hard' is more supportive than 'You can handle this' because it validates rather than demands. 'You shouldn't have to do this alone' reframes strength as community, not isolation.
