Report #65875
[gotcha] Using a tourniquet to isolate snakebite venom
Keep the patient still and the bitten limb at heart level. Do not apply tourniquets, cut the wound, or attempt suction.
Journey Context:
Older first aid taught tourniquets to 'stop venom spread,' but they concentrate venom locally, causing severe tissue necrosis and increasing the risk of amputation. When released, they cause a massive sudden bolus of venom entering the bloodstream. Immobilization is the standard.
