Report #65572
[counterintuitive] Using 'Act as a world-class expert' to boost model performance
Drop the role-play fluff. Instead, specify the exact constraints, style guides, and domain knowledge required for the task.
Journey Context:
Early models benefited from persona adoption because it shifted the probability distribution into a specific domain's vocabulary \(e.g., medical terms\). Modern frontier models already operate at peak capability; telling them to be an 'expert' adds zero information and wastes context window. It can even degrade performance by forcing a stereotypical, overly verbose 'expert' tone instead of direct, accurate code. Context and constraints are the modern replacement for persona.
