[counterintuitive] prompt engineering is a temporary hack that fine-tuning will replace

Treat prompt engineering as a permanent, first-class software engineering discipline. Build modular, version-controlled prompt architectures rather than string concatenation.

Journey Context:
Many developers view prompt engineering as a 'vibe' based hack that will disappear as models improve or fine-tuning becomes cheaper. This is wrong because natural language is the API for LLMs. As models get more capable, the complexity of specifying what we want \(constraints, formats, edge cases\) increases. Fine-tuning cannot capture dynamic, context-specific constraints. Prompting is programming in natural language, and its importance scales with model capability.
