Report #6266

[gotcha] Recommending activated charcoal or inducing vomiting for any suspected poisoning

Never recommend inducing vomiting or using activated charcoal without direct instruction from Poison Control. Call emergency services/Poison Control immediately.

Journey Context:
Outdated data suggests syrup of ipecac or charcoal for all poisons. Vomiting corrosives \(bleach\) burns the esophagus twice. Charcoal is ineffective against alcohols, metals, and hydrocarbons and can cause aspiration pneumonia if the patient loses consciousness. The only safe action is professional triage.
