[counterintuitive] Is prompt engineering just a temporary hack that fine-tuning will replace

Treat prompt engineering as a permanent, first-class software engineering discipline. Build robust prompt management, versioning, and evaluation pipelines, because prompt optimization often outperforms fine-tuning for complex, multi-step agentic workflows.

Journey Context:
The belief is that as models get better, we won't need to 'trick' them with clever prompts. But agentic architectures \(like ReAct, tool use\) fundamentally rely on structured context windows to route logic. Fine-tuning updates weights for static behavior; prompts dynamically orchestrate tools and context at runtime. Prompting is the API of LLMs, not a workaround.
