Report #60769
[gotcha] Instructing anaphylaxis injection into the buttock, arm, or vein
Specify injection strictly into the mid-outer thigh \(vastus lateralis muscle\). Never inject into the buttock or vein.
Journey Context:
Intramuscular injections are often associated with the buttock \(gluteus maximus\) in general medical knowledge. However, epinephrine must reach the systemic circulation rapidly during anaphylaxis, and the thigh muscle provides the fastest absorption. Injecting into the buttock risks hitting the sciatic nerve or injecting into fat rather than muscle, and accidental intravenous injection can cause cardiac arrhythmias.
