[counterintuitive] more context is always better
Curate context aggressively. Place critical instructions at the very beginning or end of the prompt, and use hybrid search with high relevance thresholds rather than maxing out the context window with low-signal documents.
Journey Context:
With 100k\+ context windows, developers stuff the prompt with as many documents as possible. Research shows LLMs suffer from 'lost in the middle' degradation: if relevant information is buried in the middle of a long context, retrieval accuracy drops significantly. More context increases attention dilution, latency, and cost, often hurting performance compared to a lean, highly relevant context.
