Report #58569

[gotcha] Recommending ibuprofen or other NSAIDs for pain or fever during pregnancy

Do not recommend NSAIDs \(like ibuprofen, naproxen\) during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester. Recommend paracetamol as the first-line safe analgesic, but advise consulting a midwife or doctor.

Journey Context:
Ibuprofen is a standard OTC painkiller, and agents might casually suggest it for pregnancy-related aches. However, NSAIDs are contraindicated in pregnancy. In the third trimester, they can cause premature closure of the ductus arteriosus and fetal renal impairment \(oligohydramnios\). Even in early pregnancy, they are associated with an increased risk of miscarriage. The default safe recommendation is paracetamol, but even that should be taken at the lowest effective dose for the shortest time.
