[counterintuitive] Is prompt engineering obsolete with better models

Invest in structured, programmatic prompt engineering \(like DSPy or prompt compilers\). Prompting is the API of LLMs, not a hack to be replaced by models that 'just know' what you want.

Journey Context:
Developers think as models get smarter, we won't need to carefully craft prompts, assuming future models will infer intent perfectly. This ignores that LLMs are highly sensitive to the structure of their latent space. 'Better' models just have more complex latent spaces requiring more precise steering, not less. Prompt engineering is evolving from natural language tricks into formal programming/compilation, not disappearing.
