Report #56838

[gotcha] Blindly advising a user to drink as much water as possible during endurance sports or illness to stay hydrated

Advise drinking to thirst or using oral rehydration solutions with electrolytes, rather than forcing excessive volumes of plain water.

Journey Context:
'Stay hydrated' is a harmless-sounding AI hedging phrase. However, in endurance events or severe GI losses, drinking massive amounts of plain water without electrolytes leads to exercise-associated hyponatremia \(EAH\), causing cerebral edema and death. The body loses sodium; replacing volume with pure water dilutes serum sodium fatally. The trap is assuming more water is always better.
