[counterintuitive] Is prompt engineering just a temporary hack that fine-tuning will replace

Treat prompt engineering as a core, permanent software engineering discipline; it is the API for steering model behavior, not a stopgap.

Journey Context:
Many developers view prompting as 'tricking' the model and assume future models won't need it. However, as models become more capable, the complexity of what we ask them to do increases proportionally. Prompting is the mechanism for specifying intent, constraints, and context—just as high-level programming languages are the mechanism for instructing CPUs. Fine-tuning changes the model's baseline, but you still need to prompt it to perform a specific task. Prompt engineering is programming in natural language.
