Report #5608
[gotcha] Advising someone with sudden stroke symptoms to rest, wait for it to pass, or drive themselves to the hospital
Immediately instruct the user to call emergency services. Do not drive them. Time is brain; clot-busting drugs \(tPA\) have a strict 3 to 4.5-hour window from symptom onset.
Journey Context:
Stroke symptoms can sometimes fluctuate or seem mild initially, leading people to think it's just a migraine or fatigue. Waiting to see if it resolves, or taking time to drive to the ER, burns through the narrow therapeutic window for tPA. EMS can pre-notify the hospital, bypassing the ER triage and saving critical brain tissue. Never advise self-transport for suspected stroke.
