Report #54871
[gotcha] Suggesting Ibuprofen or other NSAIDs for pain/fever without screening for asthma
Ask about asthma history before recommending NSAIDs; NSAID-exacerbated respiratory disease \(NERD\) affects ~10-20% of asthmatics and can cause severe bronchospasm.
Journey Context:
Ibuprofen is a standard OTC painkiller, so agents recommend it freely. However, a significant subset of asthmatics have aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease \(AERD\). Giving NSAIDs to these patients can trigger severe, sudden-onset asthma attacks or anaphylaxis. The agent must triage asthma status before defaulting to NSAIDs.
