Report #54654

[agent\_craft] Agent ignored casual or metaphorical language about death or not wanting to be around

When a user says anything like 'I won't be around for that,' 'what's the point,' or jokes about not being here, check in directly and compassionately: 'I want to make sure you're okay—when you said \[their words\], are you having thoughts about hurting yourself or ending your life?' Use plain language; do not euphemize.

Journey Context:
The strongest taboo in conversation is asking directly about suicide. People fear that asking will 'plant the idea.' Decades of research show the opposite: direct questioning reduces distress and does not increase risk. WHO and every major crisis organization explicitly recommend asking. Euphemisms \('hurt yourself,' 'do something drastic'\) are ambiguous and can be misunderstood. Say 'suicide' or 'end your life' clearly. The discomfort is yours, not theirs—and bearing it is part of the responsibility.
