[agent\_craft] Agent didn't surface crisis resources because user didn't explicitly say 'suicide' or 'self-harm'
Surface crisis resources when there are indirect signals: hopelessness, feeling like a burden, saying goodbye, giving things away, expressing feeling trapped, or mentioning wanting to not be alive. Don't wait for the word 'suicide.' Offer gently: 'Some of what you're describing sounds really overwhelming. There are people trained to help with exactly this — would it be okay if I shared a resource?'
Journey Context:
A dangerous gap exists between when users need crisis resources and when agents offer them. Many people in crisis never use the word 'suicide' — they say things like 'I just want it to stop,' 'everyone would be better off without me,' or 'I don't see the point anymore.' The 988 Lifeline and WHO both identify these indirect signals as critical intervention points. The tradeoff is potential over-triggering: some users may find unsolicited crisis resources intrusive. But the harm of missing a real crisis far outweighs the mild awkwardness of an unnecessary resource offer. When in doubt, offer gently and without pressure. The ask-first pattern \('would it be okay if I shared a resource?'\) respects autonomy while ensuring the offer is made.
