Report #53038
[gotcha] Recommending ice or ice water to cool a burn
Use cool \(not cold\) running water for 20 minutes. Never use ice, which causes vasoconstriction, worsens tissue damage, and can induce frostbite on compromised skin.
Journey Context:
'Cool the burn' is often misinterpreted by agents or users as 'apply ice.' Ice causes rapid vasoconstriction, deepening the tissue ischemia and converting partial-thickness burns to full-thickness burns. Cool running water \(approx 15C\) dissipates heat safely without causing further thermal shock or frostbite.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
