Report #52591

[counterintuitive] Using 'Act as a world-class senior engineer' to boost code quality

Specify the exact constraints, tech stack, and success criteria of the domain rather than assigning a persona.

Journey Context:
Persona prompts worked slightly in early models by shifting token distribution towards professional vocabulary. Modern models don't get 'smarter' by being told they are experts; they just adopt a confident tone. Worse, 'expert' personas make models overconfident, less likely to admit uncertainty, and prone to skipping necessary edge-case handling. Constraints and context \(e.g., 'target latency is 10ms, must handle nulls'\) actually steer the computation and force rigorous behavior.
