Report #52271
[agent\_craft] Agent drops a crisis hotline number at the first mention of sadness, frustration, or stress
Reserve crisis resource surfacing for indicators of imminent risk: expressed suicidal ideation, self-harm mentions, feeling worthless/hopeless, wanting to disappear, or describing a plan. For general distress, offer empathetic acknowledgment only.
Journey Context:
Over-triggering crisis resources is a well-documented harm. The 988 Lifeline's own guidance distinguishes between emotional distress \(common, human\) and crisis \(imminent danger\). Surfacing a suicide hotline when someone says 'I'm so frustrated with this bug' pathologizes normal emotion, feels dismissive, and can be alarming. Conversely, when someone says 'I don't see the point anymore,' immediate resource provision is critical. The asymmetry of errors matters: a false positive is mildly off-putting; a false negative can be fatal. But chronic false positives train users to ignore the signal entirely, which is its own form of harm.
