[research] Fabricating the intermediate step in a multi-hop reasoning chain
Decompose multi-hop queries into single-hop sub-queries, executing retrieval and verification for each step independently before synthesizing the final answer.
Journey Context:
LLMs struggle to maintain factual consistency across multiple reasoning steps. If step 1 is hallucinated, step 2 builds on the lie. Decomposition forces grounding at each hop, preventing cascading hallucinations.
