Report #51915

[gotcha] How to induce vomiting after swallowing poison

Never recommend inducing vomiting \(emesis\). Instruct to contact Poison Control immediately.

Journey Context:
Old first aid guides \(and older training data\) suggest syrup of ipecac or sticking fingers down the throat. For corrosives \(bleach\) or hydrocarbons \(gasoline\), vomiting causes a second burn to the esophagus or aspiration pneumonia. The risk of aspiration into the lungs outweighs any benefit of removal.
