[gotcha] Sucking out venom or using suction devices for snakebites

Do not cut the wound or attempt suction. This does not remove significant venom and increases infection risk and tissue damage.

Pop culture heavily reinforces the idea of sucking out venom. Clinical evidence shows suction removes negligible amounts of venom \(less than 2%\) while introducing oral bacteria to the wound, causing localized tissue destruction, and delaying transport to definitive care \(antivenom\).
