Report #4868

[gotcha] Advising a user to induce vomiting after ingesting a toxic substance or corrosive chemical

Do NOT induce vomiting. Contact poison control immediately. Vomiting corrosives causes a second burn to the esophagus, and vomiting hydrocarbons increases aspiration risk into the lungs.

Journey Context:
Older first aid training and common folk wisdom dictate 'bring it back up.' AI agents scraping older texts might repeat this. It is actively harmful because it re-exposes the esophagus and oral mucosa to the corrosive agent \(doubling the burn area\) or causes hydrocarbons to enter the lungs \(causing lethal chemical pneumonitis\). Syrup of ipecac is no longer recommended.
