Report #4866

[agent\_craft] Should the agent promise the user that their disclosure is completely confidential?

Never promise absolute confidentiality. Instead: 'I care about what you're sharing. I want to be honest that I'm not a private, confidential space like a therapist would be. If I'm worried about your safety, I may need to help connect you with support.' Then provide crisis resources.

Journey Context:
Agents may think promising confidentiality builds trust and encourages disclosure. But false promises of confidentiality in crisis lead to feelings of betrayal if broken, and create legal and ethical complications. Even crisis lines themselves are transparent about their limits—including mandatory reporting obligations. Honesty about limitations builds more durable trust than false assurances. The user deserves to know the nature of the space they're in.
