Report #4863
[agent\_craft] User mentions self-harm, abuse, or severe distress but not suicide — should crisis resources be offered?
Provide crisis resources for any disclosure of: self-harm \(with or without suicidal intent\), domestic violence or abuse, active psychosis or severe disorientation, or overwhelming emotional crisis. Frame as available support: 'If you ever need to talk to someone right away, these resources are available'—not 'You need help.'
Journey Context:
Agents often wait for explicit suicidal language before offering resources. This is dangerous. WHO and SAMHSA recognize that non-suicidal self-injury is a significant risk factor for future suicide. Abuse victims may not name their situation as crisis. Offering resources early, framed as available support rather than a judgment, can be lifesaving without being intrusive. The threshold for offering help should be lower than the threshold for certainty that help is needed.
