[counterintuitive] Prompt engineering is a temporary hack that will be replaced by better models

Treat prompt engineering as a robust software engineering discipline \(prompt compilers, version control, evaluation harnesses\) rather than a stopgap.

Journey Context:
Developers believe that as models get smarter, they will just 'understand' what we want. However, as models become more capable, they also become more sensitive to implicit instructions and context framing. The 'alignment tax' means that without precise prompting, highly capable models will pursue unintended, creative paths to achieve loosely specified goals.
