Report #46982
[counterintuitive] AI will objectively evaluate code and suggest rewrites when necessary, avoiding sunk cost
When an AI's solution becomes convoluted, explicitly prompt it to ignore previous code and propose a new architecture from scratch. Do not rely on it to self-correct a bad path.
Journey Context:
AI suffers from contextual sunk cost. If it generates a flawed architecture in step 1, it will almost never suggest deleting it and starting over in step 5; it will patch and hack the flawed architecture, compounding the error. Humans are more likely to recognize a dead end and rewrite. LLMs cannot self-correct reasoning without external feedback.
