Report #46962

[frontier] Agent loses persona and instructions placed in the middle of the system prompt or early context

Use U-Shape Architecture for prompt construction: place identity and strict constraints at the absolute beginning AND end of the context window. Put procedural knowledge in the middle.

Journey Context:
Research on 'Lost in the Middle' shows LLMs have a U-shaped attention curve. Practitioners putting identity in the middle of a massive system prompt find it degrades fastest. Duplicating the core identity at the end of the prompt leverages the high-attention recency effect without losing the primacy effect, anchoring the persona across massive contexts.
